Your plan is what you pay memberarea for your workspace. It sets how much fits in: how many members, courses and community hubs you can have, among other limits. This article covers your own subscription with memberarea, not the products your members buy from you.
Where you see your plan
Open Settings > Billing. The box at the top shows your Current plan with its price and a status: Active, Trialing, Past due, Cancelled and a few others. Below it you see the date of the Next billing and the card on file, for example "Visa ending in 4242".

Opening the page needs the Update Platform Settings permission. Choosing, changing, cancelling and resuming a plan are reserved for the account owner. Anyone else who tries gets an error.

Choosing or changing a plan
Below the current plan you find the plans you can book. Switch between Monthly and Yearly above the cards. When lifetime plans are offered, a third option, Lifetime, shows plans you pay for once, with no renewal. A lifetime plan is paid on a Stripe payment page that opens after you order. It applies once the payment goes through.
Each card lists the number of members, courses and community hubs included. Its button says Upgrade, Downgrade or Switch, depending on whether the plan costs more, less or the same per month as yours. All prices on the cards exclude VAT.

Clicking the button opens Review your order. It shows the service, the Term and cancellation and the Total price. Where VAT applies, the total includes it, and the final rate follows your billing address. A monthly plan runs for one month and a yearly plan for twelve, and both renew automatically unless you cancel before the end of the term.
Before you can order a paid plan, tick the box that asks to start the service right away. Then click Order with obligation to pay.
Have a discount code, for example from a memberarea partner? Click I have a discount code in the order dialog, enter it and click Redeem. The price updates before you order.
How upgrades and downgrades are billed
The time you already paid for is taken into account when you change plans:
- Moving to a plan that costs more per month is invoiced right away and charged to your saved payment method, minus the unused time on your current plan. The new plan applies once that invoice is paid. If the card is declined, you stay on your current plan.
- Moving to a plan that costs less per month in the same billing interval charges nothing today. The difference is settled on your next invoice.
- Switching between monthly and yearly starts a new billing period right away, so the order dialog shows the amount Due today.
When you change a running subscription, the order dialog shows the settlement under Settled against your running plan before you confirm, including the credit for the unused time on your current plan.
When a smaller plan does not fit
Before the order dialog opens, memberarea compares the new plan with what you use today: members, admins, courses, community hubs, communities, events and storage. If you are above a limit of the new plan, the dialog says This plan is smaller than your current use. and lists each area with how much is in use and how much is included.

You can still switch. Nothing gets deleted, but you cannot add new items in those areas until you are back under the limit. How members are counted is explained in the member list article.
Features that depend on the plan
Some features need a specific plan. The affiliate program you run for your own members and products, for example, needs the Business plan.
Cancelling and resuming
Click Cancel plan next to your current plan and confirm with Cancel subscription. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for and does not renew after that. Until then a notice reads "Subscription cancels on" with the date, and Resume keeps the subscription as if you had never cancelled.
When the paid period has ended, admin access to your workspace is paused. Admin pages then lead to Your subscription has ended, where Reactivate plan takes you back to Billing. Your content and data stay safe, and you can subscribe again at any time.
When the subscription ends, the account owner also receives an email that the subscription has been cancelled. Your public checkout stops accepting new orders until you have a plan again.
When there is nothing to change
Two cases look different on the Billing page:
- Your plan is managed by the platform. Your plan was assigned directly. There is nothing to pay and nothing to cancel. Contact support to change it.
- This workspace is billed by Shopify. Your plan lives in your Shopify admin. Use Manage plan in Shopify to change it there.
