Your platform speaks the language of each member. You decide which language newcomers see first and which languages members can pick in their profile and on your login pages.
Both settings live under Settings > General, in the Platform Identity box. The timezone and the clock format sit further down in Date & Time Settings.
Which languages are available
The platform interface comes in seven languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian and Hungarian. Every language you support can be picked by your members, and a language you leave out does not appear in the lists they choose from. Members who already use a language you remove keep it until they change it, and the Language field in a member's profile and in the team invitation always offers all seven languages.
The default language
Default Language is the language for everyone who has not picked one: visitors on your login and registration pages, and members without a language of their own.
The default language is always one of the supported languages. If you choose a default that is not on your list, it is added to the list automatically.
Choosing which languages members can pick
Click Supported Languages next to the default language. The dialog lists all seven languages with checkboxes. The default language is marked Default and cannot be unticked. Click Apply, then save the page.

As long as every language is ticked, the hint below the field reads "Members can choose from all supported languages." Once you narrow the list, it shows how many languages members can choose from.
Limiting the list makes sense when you only want to offer the languages your courses and posts are written in. The interface then matches the content around it.
How members choose their language
Members change their language in their own profile, in Profile Information. The list there only offers your supported languages. After saving, the page reloads in the new language.
On the login page, visitors see a language switcher as soon as you support at least two languages. With a single language, the switcher is hidden. A visitor's choice there is remembered for their current session.
You can also set a member's language yourself in their member profile, and every team invitation has its own Language field.
Emails in the right language
Notification emails go out in the member's language. If a member has no language set, the default language of your platform is used, and English after that.
For each language, an email you edited yourself wins over the built-in text. If you rewrite an email only in German, English-speaking members still get the built-in English version.
When you edit a notification email, switch through the languages in the editor and adjust each one your members use.
Menu labels per language
When members can pick more than one language, the navigation editor shows a language selector. Each menu item can then carry its own label per language. A member sees the label in their language, and the label of the default language wherever that one is empty.
Timezone and time format
Timezone decides in which timezone dates and times across the platform are shown. If you have never saved one, the field suggests the timezone of your browser. Pick your timezone from the list, then save. Only timezones from the list are accepted.
Time Format switches between 12 Hours (AM/PM) and 24 Hours for displayed times. Until you save a choice, the field shows 24 Hours.
The language, the timezone and the time format all apply to the whole platform. Only the language can also be set per member.
