Every image, video, audio file and document you or your team upload ends up in the media library: course covers, lesson videos, product images, logos and downloads. Under Settings > Media you see all of them in one place, sort them into folders and check how much storage they take.
Finding a file
The column on the left has two lists:
- Folders: All shows every file. Below it are your own folders.
- Media Type: All, Images, Videos, Audio and Files narrow the list to one kind of file.
Search files above the files finds them by name. The view button next to it switches between tiles and a list. In the list, the column button decides which of Name, Type, Size and Date you see.
Files your members upload themselves, such as profile pictures or attachments in community posts, are not part of the library.
Uploading
Drag files from your computer onto the page and drop them anywhere. While you drag, the page shows Drop files to upload them here. You can also click Upload in the left column and pick files. A file lands in the folder you have open.
You do not need to upload here first. Wherever you pick an image or a video, for example for a course cover or a lesson, the same library opens, and new uploads from there appear here too.
Folders
Create Folder at the top of the left column asks for a Folder Name and a Color. The menu next to a folder offers Edit Folder and Delete Folder. Deleting a folder keeps its files: they move back to All.
Details, renaming and downloading
Click a file to open its details on the right. You see a preview and, under Information, facts such as the dimensions of an image or the length of a video. From here you can:
- Rename the file. The new name only changes how it is listed, every place that uses the file keeps working.
- Download the original.
- Delete the file.
A deleted file does not go to Settings > Trash and cannot be restored. Every course, page or product that shows it loses the image or video. Check where a file is used before you delete it.
Storage
The bar at the bottom shows how much space your files use, split by images, videos, audio and other files, for example "2.4 GB of 10 GB used". The total comes from your plan.
Who can use the media library
The page needs Update Platform Settings. Inside it, four permissions decide what a role may do: View Media Library, Upload Media for uploads and new folders, Update Media for renaming files and editing folders, and Delete Media for deleting files and folders. Owner and Admin have all four.
