When a member says "I cannot find the course", the fastest answer is to look with their eyes. From their profile you can sign in as them and see exactly what they see.
Starting
Open the member and choose to sign in as them. You land in the member area as that person, with their access, their language and their start page.
Everything works the way it works for them. A course they cannot reach is not there for you either, which is exactly the point.
Coming back
A bar stays visible while you are signed in as somebody else, and it is what brings you back to your own account. Use it rather than signing out.
Nothing about your own session is lost while you are away.
What it is good for
- Support. Confirming what somebody can and cannot reach, in seconds.
- Checking access. Faster and more reliable than reasoning about groups and purchases.
- Checking the experience. How a new member's start page actually looks before anybody else sees it.
- Reproducing a problem. If it happens for them and not for you, this is where you find out why.
What is recorded
Every time you do this, it is written down: who you are, whose account you entered, when, and from which address. The entry goes into the audit log and cannot be switched off.
That is deliberate. Signing in as somebody means acting fully as them.
Anything you do while signed in as a member is done as that member. Posts you write are theirs, lessons you open count as their progress. Look, do not act.
Who is allowed to
Two rules gate it.
- The permission has to be part of your role.
- You cannot enter the account of somebody whose role ranks equal to or above yours. An admin cannot impersonate another admin.
That keeps the feature a support tool rather than a way around the permission system.
What it is not
It is not a way to change somebody's password, and it is not the right tool for working in their account on their behalf.
