Starting a ManyChat flow from your memberarea

The ten events that can start a flow, and who they can reach.

In questo articolo

Once a page is connected with its App Key, ten events in your memberarea can start a ManyChat flow. In ManyChat you build a flow, pick a MemberArea event as its starting step, and switch the flow live. Nothing has to be configured on our side per event.

The events

Money

  • Order paid: someone pays an order.
  • Subscription started: someone subscribes to one of your plans.
  • Subscription renewed: a recurring payment goes through.
  • Subscription cancelled: a subscription ends, which is the moment for a win back flow.
  • Subscription payment failed: a recurring payment fails, which is the moment to ask for a new card.

Learning

  • Course completed: a member finishes a whole course.
  • Lesson completed: a member finishes a single lesson.

Audience

  • Event registration: someone registers for one of your events.
  • Tag added to a member: one of your tags lands on a member.
  • Contact created: a new contact lands in your audience.

What the flow receives

Each event carries its own values into the flow, and ManyChat can write them into custom fields. Order paid hands over the order number, its status, the amount as a number, the same amount already formatted with its currency, when it was paid, and the buyer's name and email address.

Every amount and every date arrives twice, once raw for comparing and once already written out for the message. Using memberarea steps in a flow explains that pattern in full.

Who a flow can reach

An event can only start a flow for someone ManyChat already knows as a subscriber of that page. Your memberarea resolves the person in this order: the link an earlier flow step created for that subscriber, then the email address, then the phone number.

If none of those match, the event is skipped and the reason is written to the connection, where you can read it under Settings, then Integrations, then ManyChat.

Two consequences worth planning for:

  • A buyer who has never written to your page cannot be messaged. Facebook, not this app, sets that rule.
  • The most reliable setup starts in the chat: a flow saves the person with Save contact in MemberArea or Create member, which links subscriber and person for good. Everything that happens later then finds them without guessing.

Delivery, retries and switching off

A failed delivery is retried five times with growing gaps, so a short outage on either side does not lose a purchase. If ManyChat rejects the App Key, the page is switched off instead of retried forever, and the panel says so in plain words. Paste a fresh key to switch it back on.

Removing a page from the list stops every event for that page immediately. Your members, their access and their orders are untouched.
