Being a member of your platform does not put someone in your community. Access is granted per forum, and a member without any forum sees an empty community. The Members page of the community is where you hand out that access and look after the people who have it.
The page has two tabs: Members for individual people and Groups for granting access to a whole group at once.
Who appears in the list
The Members tab lists everyone who has at least one forum or one badge, either directly or through a group. Each row shows the member's Level when the level system is on, their Badges and the number of Forums they can reach. Email, Last active, Joined and Points are columns you can switch on. A green dot marks who is online right now.
Access that comes from an area counts too. A member you added on an area's Members tab, or who belongs to a group on its Groups tab, appears here with every forum of that area in the Forums number.
Search, filters and the column choice work as in every other list.
Working with lists: filters and columns
Giving members access
Assign member opens Add Member, a short wizard with three steps: Members, Forums and Badges.
- Pick one or more members.
- For each area, choose No access, Individual forums or All forums. With Individual forums you tick the forums one by one.
- Optionally pick badges to give them at the same time.
You need at least one forum or one badge before you can save. The wizard only adds: it never takes away access a member already has, so it is safe to run for someone who is already in.
All forums means every forum the area has today. A forum you add to the area later is not included. If a member should follow an area as it grows, grant the access on the area itself, through Edit Area and its Members or Groups tab.
To take a single forum away, open the member with Edit and change their forums there.
Giving groups access
The Groups tab works the same way for groups. Add Groups opens a wizard with the steps Groups, Forums and Badges, and every member of the group gets that access for as long as they are in it.
Groups are the better choice whenever access follows something you already track, such as a cohort or a product. Members who join the group later get the forums automatically, and members who leave it lose them.
Add members opens the group so you can add people to it. Remove takes the group's forums and badges in this community away. The group itself stays, with its members.
Removing a member
Remove asks "Remove this member?" and then takes away every forum and every badge the member holds directly. That includes badges they earned, not only the ones you gave them, so think twice before removing an active member just to tidy up.
Remove also takes the member off every area they were added to directly. Access that comes from a group stays, for forums and for areas alike. To lock someone out completely, remove them from those groups too. Their account, posts and comments are not touched.
Muting a member
Mute opens Mute member for a member who needs a break rather than a ban. "Muted members cannot post or comment." They cannot react, edit their comments, report content or write in a live session's chat either, but they can still read everything.
- Duration (hours) sets how long the mute lasts, up to a year. "Leave empty for permanent mute".
- Reason (optional) is a note for your team.
A muted member who tries to write sees that they are muted and, for a timed mute, until when. Muting again replaces the earlier mute, and Unmute ends it early. Admins cannot be muted, and you cannot mute yourself.
A mute applies to the community only. Direct chat keeps working, so for someone who causes trouble there, look at the member's account instead.
Titles
Assign title gives a member a visible title such as "Founder", "Coach" or "VIP". The Style can be Text, Icon & Text or Image & Text, with a Color, and the Preview shows it before you save. The title replaces the level icon at the member's picture, so use it for the few people whose role matters more than their level.
Edit title changes it later, and Remove title takes it away.
Which role may do what
The page follows three community permissions. What a team member sees in the menu depends on the permissions of their role.
| Action | Permission needed |
|---|---|
| See the members and groups | View Community |
| Mute and Unmute | Moderate Posts and Reports |
| Assign member, Add Groups, Remove, Assign title | Manage Community Settings |
With the roles you start with, admins and the account owner can do everything, trainers and member managers can mute and unmute, and content managers can only look. You can change that per role.
