Your members reach your platform and log in through a web address. Every
workspace starts with a platform domain that we host for you, such as
yourname.memberarea.io, so it works from the first day. You can rename its
front part at any time, and on the Professional or Business plan you can also
run the platform on an address of your own, such as members.yourbrand.com.
Both live on one page: open Settings > Login domain.
Renaming the platform domain
The Platform domain field shows only the front part. The ending
.memberarea.io stays fixed. Type the new name and save.
The name follows a few rules:
- lowercase letters, digits and hyphens, with no hyphen at the start or end,
- one level only, so
academyworks andmy.academydoes not, - reserved names such as
www, app, admin, api, help, shop, testordemoare refused, - a name that another workspace already uses is refused.
The old address stops working the moment you save. Anyone who opens it lands on our homepage instead of your login page. Tell your members about the new address before you change it.
If the platform domain is also your primary address, the page moves you to the new address right after saving, and you stay signed in.
Connecting your own domain
Custom domains depend on your plan. Starter includes none, Professional includes one and Business includes three. Without the plan, or once all included domains are in use, the page shows an upgrade note instead of the input field.
Enter the full address, for example members.yourbrand.com, and click
Connect domain. The address is refused if it is not a valid domain name,
if it ends in .memberarea.io, or if another workspace has already connected
it.
The new domain appears in the list together with a box called DNS records for your registrar. Add one of the records shown there wherever your domain is managed, at your registrar or DNS provider:
- The CNAME record, marked Recommended, is for a subdomain. Its
Host is the first part of your address,
membersin the example above, and its Value is your platform domain. - The A record, marked Alternative for root domains, is for an address
without a prefix, such as
yourbrand.com. Its Host is@and its Value is the IP address of your platform domain.
Click a host or value to copy it. You only need one of the two records.

Checking the connection
Right after you connect a domain, the page checks its DNS on its own for a few minutes. You can start a check yourself at any time with Check connection. The badge next to the domain shows the result:
- Connected: a CNAME record points to your platform domain, or an A record points to the same IP address.
- Waiting for DNS: no record was found yet. Changes at your registrar can take up to 24 hours to arrive.
- Wrong target: a record exists but points somewhere else. Update it to the values shown below the domain.
- Not verified: no check has confirmed the domain yet, or the last one failed.
As long as a domain is not connected, the DNS box stays visible below it. Once the check succeeds, the box disappears.
Choosing the primary domain
The primary domain is the address your platform treats as its own. Most pages opened on the platform domain redirect to it; only the login and registration pages stay reachable there. Links the platform hands out, such as the login link of the registration form for your website and the login endpoint for Single Sign-On, use the primary domain.
Set as primary appears next to a custom domain once it is connected. After you click it, the page moves you to the new address, and you stay signed in.
Removing a domain
The trash button next to a custom domain removes it after you confirm. If it was your primary domain, the platform switches back to the platform domain, and if you were working on the removed address, you are moved over to the platform domain. The platform domain itself cannot be removed. To make it your primary address again, remove the custom domain.
Renaming the platform domain and adding, removing or promoting a custom domain each leave an entry in the Audit Log, together with who did it.
Who can change domains
All settings pages, this one included, require the Update Platform Settings permission in your role.
