Course certificates

Turn on a completion certificate for a course, design it, and download or revoke the certificates your members have earned.

In this article

A certificate gives members something to keep once they finish a course. Each course has its own certificate. Once you turn it on, every member who completes the course receives a personalized PDF with their name, the course name, the date and a unique number.

Open your courses

Turning certificates on

Open a course, go to the Settings tab and pick Certificate. Switch on Issue a certificate on completion. The design options appear only while the switch is on.

There is no save button. Every change is saved on its own after a short pause. While certificates are on, Saving and Saved next to the switch tell you when a change is stored. Changing the certificate takes the permission Edit Course.

When a member receives one

A certificate is issued the moment a member completes the whole course: every lesson finished and every exam passed. Hidden modules do not count. Before issuing, the course progress is checked again, and a member below 100 percent gets nothing. Certificates are issued only to members with access to the course, directly or through a group.

Each member gets one certificate per course. The certificate is created when the course is completed, so members who finished before you turned certificates on do not get one for that earlier completion. They receive one as soon as they complete something new in the course, for example a lesson you add later.

Note

Turning the switch off stops new certificates. Certificates that were already issued stay available to their members.

Designing the certificate

The design is split into three boxes.

Layout offers six styles: Classic, Modern, Minimal, Laurel, Banner and Portico. Each thumbnail shows your current colors.

Text holds the wording:

  • Title, which starts as "Certificate of Completion". Up to 120 characters.
  • Subtitle, which starts as "This certificate is proudly presented to". Up to 200 characters.
  • Signatory name and Signatory title. If you leave the name empty, the name of the workspace owner is printed, and the field shows it as a hint.
  • Signature. Draw one, or Upload an image.

Branding sets the Background color, the Accent color and the Logo. Without a logo of your own, the certificate uses your workspace logo and picks the light or dark version to suit the background color.

Logo and signature come from your media library. A signature you draw or upload is saved there automatically.

Checking the result

The Preview box beside the settings updates as you type. Full screen shows it larger, and Open as PDF renders the actual PDF in a new tab. The PDF preview uses the sample name "Jane Sample" and a sample number, so you see the real layout before any member earns one.

What the certificate shows

Every certificate is an A4 landscape PDF. It carries the member's first and last name, or their email address if the profile has no name. It also shows the course name, the completion date and a certificate number.

Numbers follow the pattern CERT-2026-00001. They count up across all courses in your workspace and start again at 00001 each calendar year, so no two certificates share a number.

Important

Each certificate keeps the design it was issued with. Changing the layout, text or colors later only affects certificates issued after the change.

What members see

When a member has a certificate, the course page shows Course completed with a Download certificate button. The course card in their course overview gets a Certificate button as well. In the list view of the overview, the button appears once the course shows 100 percent. The button stays even when Show course progress is switched off for the course.

To collect all of a member's certificates in one place, add the My Certificates element to a hub. It lists the member's newest certificates with a download link for each; Max certificates shown in the element settings sets how many, up to 50.

Managing issued certificates

Open the course's Access tab. In the member table, the Certificate column shows the number of each member's certificate, a Download button and a Revoke button. Downloading and revoking need Edit Course.

Revoke a certificate when it was issued by mistake or should no longer count. Confirm with Revoke in the Revoke certificate dialog. The column then shows Revoked and the member can no longer download it. Revoking touches only the certificate; the member's progress stays as it is. A revoked certificate stays revoked, even if the member completes the course again.

To see how many certificates each course has produced, show the Certificates column in the course list. It is hidden by default and counts issued certificates that are not revoked.
