Your own account: profile, sign-in and notifications

Your photo and name, your password and two-factor sign-in, your devices, your notifications, and the settings in your account menu.

In this article

Your own account is separate from the workspace settings. The settings change the platform for everyone. Your account holds what belongs to you as a person: your name and photo, how you sign in, which emails you get and how the admin area looks for you. Every team member has their own.

The account menu

Your picture at the bottom of the navigation opens the account menu. Its tooltip reads My Profile. The menu holds:

  • Your name and email at the top. Click them to open your profile.
  • Workspaces lists every workspace where you are part of the team, so you can switch or start a new one.
  • Partner program opens the memberarea partner program. The memberarea partner program explains it.
  • Darkmode and Language, described below.
  • Privacy and my data opens the privacy section of your profile.
  • Logout signs you out.

Workspaces and Partner program appear for team members with access to the admin area.

With the navigation in the top bar, your picture sits at the top right. That menu is shorter: your profile, Darkmode, Language and Logout. On a phone, the menu also holds Share an idea, Contact support and the links to the terms of service and privacy policy.

Your profile

Clicking your name in the account menu opens your profile in a window with the sections Profile, Security, Notifications, Devices and Privacy. A section Payouts joins them when your workspace runs an affiliate program and Payments is switched on.

Profile Information holds your Profile picture, First Name, Last Name, Language and Email. The email is shown but cannot be edited here. Change what you need and click Save.

Your name and photo appear wherever you act on the platform: on posts, comments and lessons. A photo also ticks the step Personalize your profile in the Get Started checklist.

Below it, Social Media takes your phone number and your channels, such as Instagram or YouTube, so members can reach you.

Your language and dark mode

Language in the account menu shows your current language. Open it, pick another one, and the page reloads in that language. The choice is yours alone: it applies to the admin area and the member area whenever you are signed in, and nobody else on your team sees a change. The field Language in your profile does the same.

If your choice cannot be saved, the message "Could not save your language." appears right inside the language menu and the page stays as it was.

Darkmode switches between light and dark, in the admin area and the member area. It is saved to your account, so it follows you to other devices, and it only changes your own view.

The default language your members see is a workspace setting. Languages and localization covers it.

Password and two-factor sign-in

The section Security holds two boxes.

Update Password asks for your Current Password, a New Password and Confirm Password.

Two-factor authentication adds a second step at sign-in, so a password alone is not enough. Choose one of two methods:

  • Authenticator app: scan the QR code with an app such as Google Authenticator or 1Password, then enter the 6-digit code it shows.
  • Email codes: you get a one-time code by email each time you sign in.

Enter the code and click Turn on. You then see a set of recovery codes. Each one lets you sign in once if you lose access to your second step. Copy them somewhere safe and click I saved my codes, because they are not shown again.

Once it is on, you can Regenerate recovery codes or Turn off two-factor sign-in. Both ask for your password first.

The owner can require two-factor sign-in for owners and admins. If that applies to you and you have not set it up, memberarea sends you to this section and only lets you continue once the second step is on. Inviting your team and setting roles explains the switch, and Login, registration and SSO covers two-factor sign-in for members.

Devices and recent activity

The section Devices has two boxes.

Active devices lists every device where you are signed in, with the browser and the last login. The device you are using is marked Current Device. Logout Device ends the session on one device. Logout all devices ends every other session at once. Tick Also log out of this device if you want to be signed out here too.

Recent security activity is a record of sign-ins and security changes on your account: a password change, two-factor sign-in turned on or off, new recovery codes, devices signed out and blocked sign-in attempts. If you see something you did not do, change your password and sign out all devices.

Notifications in the admin area

The bell in the navigation collects what needs your attention. Owners and admins receive admin notifications here, such as:

  • a new member joined
  • a new order was paid
  • a payment failed
  • a submission or an exam is waiting for review
  • new course feedback
  • a dashboard alert or a milestone your workspace reached

Your own notifications, such as replies to your community posts, appear in the same list. The tabs All, General, Courses, Community and Events filter it. Click a notification to open what it is about.

The counter on the bell shows how many are unread. Mark all as read clears it. Notification preferences opens the section Notifications of your profile.

The emails the workspace sends to its team for the same events are a workspace setting. Notification settings explains them.

Your notification preferences

The section Notifications of your profile decides which emails reach you personally. My Notifications holds these switches:

  • Marketing & notification emails is the master switch for every email that is not about your account, billing or security. Those are always sent.
  • Desktop notifications shows notifications on this device even while the tab is in the background. It appears when your browser supports it.
  • Event reminders sends an email before events you joined and when a calendar you follow adds an event. It appears when Events is switched on.
  • Added to Course and New Course Version Released appear when Courses is switched on, Added to Hub and New Hub Version Released when Hubs is switched on.

When the community is switched on, Community notifications below decides which community emails you get, a digest, browser push and quiet hours.

Each switch saves the moment you flip it.

Your data

The section Privacy lets you take your data with you. Export my data downloads a file with your profile, orders, subscriptions, course progress, community activity and affiliate data.

Delete my account sends a deletion request with Request account deletion. An administrator reviews it before anything is deleted, and you can cancel the request while it is pending. Data requests, export and deletion explains what happens to such a request.
