A lesson page is built from elements: a headline, a video, a quiz, a task to hand in. The element you choose decides whether members read, practice or produce something you review.
Open a module, then Edit Lesson on any lesson to reach the lesson editor. Reaching it takes Edit Module, and the module library View Module.
Adding an element
The Elements panel lists everything you can add, grouped into five categories. Type into Search elements to filter the list, then click an element to add it to the current page or drag it to the spot you want.
Click an element on the page to open its settings in the side panel, which also has Delete and Duplicate. Elements without settings show No style settings, and you edit them directly on the page.
Right-click an element and choose Save as default: new elements of this type then start with these settings in the course you opened the lesson from. If you opened the lesson from the module library, the oldest course that contains the module is used. Remove default undoes it. The option appears only when the module is part of a course.

Basic Elements
Headline, Text, Information and List carry your written content. Separator adds space or a line between blocks, and Checklist gives members tasks to tick off. Accordion folds content into sections, Table arranges it in rows and columns, and Columns places elements side by side in a Column layout such as Two equal columns or Three equal columns.
Multimedia Elements
- Video: upload a file or use Record video. Mandatory content is on by default and means the video must be viewed in its entirety. Allow fast forwarding is off by default, while Playback speed, which lets members change the speed, is on.
- Audio: offers Allow fast forwarding and Playback speed as well.
- Image: with Alt text, Image-Format, Alignment and a Magnification button.
- Image Gallery for several images and Files for downloads.
- Content Linking: points members to one of your courses, to a module or lesson in it, to a hub or an event, or to something in your community.
If Hubs, Events or Community is off in your workspace, turn it on under Settings > Features before you link to it.
Interactive Elements
Multiple Choice, Multiple Select and Cloze Text check what members have learned. Link and Button send members somewhere else. Flashcards shows cards with a front and a back, and Shuffle cards puts them in random order.
The three quiz elements share these settings with Sort Elements:
- Number of attempts: 1, 2, 3, 5 or Unlimited. The default is 3.
- Show solution after failed attempts: on by default. It is locked while attempts are unlimited.
- Passing threshold, for Cloze Text and Sort Elements only: 60 to 100 percent, with 100 as the default.
- Shuffle answer order, for Multiple Choice and Multiple Select only.
Multiple Choice and Multiple Select are checked on the server when a member clicks Check result, so the correct answers cannot be read in advance. With Show solution after failed attempts on, they appear after the last allowed failed attempt. Each new attempt replaces the stored answer, so the last attempt is the one that counts.
For a graded test that decides whether members pass, use an Exam-Module instead.
Answer Elements
Text submission, File submission, Video submission and Audio submission ask members to hand something in. Each one has three switches: Allow text formatting, Must be done and Must be rated. With Must be rated, you evaluate the answer, and your evaluation decides whether the member has to repeat the task.
Sort Elements sits in this group too: members put a list of items into the correct order.
Code Elements
Code-Snippet adds your own HTML. Embed code takes HTML, an iFrame or a script and shows it either Inline on the page or in a Pop-up that members open with a button.
Required tasks
Switch on Must be done for a quiz element, Sort Elements or a Checklist, or keep Mandatory content on for a video. Members then cannot finish the page and move on until the task is complete. A required submission works for the whole lesson instead: members cannot finish the lesson until they hand it in, and with Must be rated not until you have graded it.
Submissions and lesson feedback
Audio, Link, Button and Embed code cannot be made required.
Before you publish
Checklist in the editor header opens Check before publishing. It flags empty elements, a missing video, invalid links, images without alt text, skipped heading levels, link text that says nothing, elements that are not available yet and hidden pages that contain tasks. Preview shows the lesson on Desktop, Tablet and Mobile.
Your work is saved as you go. Undo, version history and the lesson trash are described in Working in the lesson editor.
Content changes reach members only after you publish the course again with Update Course. That includes required tasks: a task you make required in the draft does not block members until you publish.
