Landing page growth tool

Build a page of its own for your calendars or events, with an optional form, and share it by link or QR code.

In this article

A landing page is a Growth Tool with an address of its own. You share the link or print the QR code, and visitors land on a page with your headline, a short text, an optional form and the choice of their calendar app. It suits everything that does not live on a page of yours: social posts, flyers, slides, a sign at the door.

Open Growth Tools

Creating one

Click New Growth Tool and choose Landingpage. The editor opens with four tabs: Setup, Form, Appearance and Share. The preview on the right shows the page as visitors will see it.

The headline and the text under it are edited right in the preview. Click into them and type.

Setup: calendars or events

Under Method, choose what visitors take home:

  • Subscribe to Calendar works with one or more of your calendars. Add them with Add Calendar.
  • Add event offers a single event. Add one or more with Add Event.

When you add a calendar or an event, the editor asks whether it should replace the headline and description with the details of that calendar or event. Choose Yes or No.

With two or more calendars, the switch User can deselect calendars appears. Turn it on, and visitors see a checkbox for each calendar and can leave out the ones they do not want.

With two or more events, visitors pick one of them. With exactly one event, the page can show its date and time together with a time zone picker, so visitors read the time in their own zone.

Form: who signs up

Collect Contact Information is switched on for a new landing page. The form starts with two questions, "Full Name" and "Email address". Click Add Field for more.

Each question has:

  • Question: the label visitors read.
  • Reply Type: for example Name, Email, Text, Number, Date, Date & Time or Yes / No. Name and email can each be used once.
  • Save response to Custom Field: for every type except name and email, the member field the answer is stored in. Only fields of the matching type are offered.
  • Required: visitors cannot continue without an answer. Add your own Required error message if you like.

Every question needs a label, and every question other than name and email needs a member field. Otherwise the Form tab turns red and the tool is not saved. A missing label shows Please add a question., and a form without any question shows Please add a field. An email answer must look like an email address before visitors can continue.

An answer never overwrites a value that person already has in that field.

Tags and custom fields

Appearance

Appearance has two states, and the preview switches with them.

Initial State is the page before anyone signs up:

  • Under Display, switch the Description on or off. With a single event, Date is offered as well.
  • Layout Colors sets the background, the box, the headline and the description. Form Input Colors appears when the form is on.
  • Calendar Selector shows the calendar apps either behind one Button or as a row of Icons. Position, size and text of the button or icons follow below.

Submitted State is the page after visitors have chosen their calendar app. Its headline and text are again edited in the preview, and Show description, the colors and the button text, "Open in Calendar" by default, are set in the sidebar.

Share

The Share tab holds everything you hand out:

  • Landing Page URL with a copy field. Copy Url in the editor header copies the same address.
  • Meta Data: the Title, Description and Image shown when the link is shared, for example in a chat or a social post. Without a title or description, the headline and description of the page are used. The image should be at least 1200 by 630 pixels.
  • QR-Code: set its background and foreground colors, then use Download QR-Code Image to save it as a PNG. The code leads to the same address.

Important

A new landing page is inactive. Until you switch it on with the status switch in the editor header, the link shows Deactivated and nobody can sign up.

What visitors get

Visitors fill in the form, if there is one, and pick their calendar app: Apple, Google, Office 365, Outlook, Outlook.com or Yahoo. The page switches to its Submitted State and sends them on to the app they picked right away. If the app does not open, the button of the Submitted State leads there. With Subscribe to Calendar, an address that already has an account gets a confirmation email, and the calendars are added once the person clicks the link in it. With Add event, Google, Office 365, Outlook.com and Yahoo open with the event already filled in.

Visits while the page is active and sign-ups are counted in the Growth Tools list, once per IP address.
