Custom code snippets

Add your own HTML and CSS snippets to the head or body of the pages behind the login and pick a consent category for each one.

In this article

Sometimes you want a piece of your own code in your pages, for example a stylesheet link or a few lines of CSS. Custom Codes keeps these snippets in one place. You add a snippet once, and the platform places it in your pages for you, so you never have to edit a template.

Open custom codes

Before you start

Custom Codes sits in the Integrations & API block of the settings menu. Three things decide whether you can work with it:

  • Your role needs Manage Custom Code in addition to Update Platform Settings. Without it, the page can neither load nor save snippets.
  • Manage Custom Code is never available to a custom role. The built-in Owner and Admin roles have it.
  • Your plan must include custom code. If it does not, creating or saving a snippet is refused.
Important

A snippet is placed in your pages exactly as you write it. Nothing checks or cleans the code first, so a broken tag can affect every page that loads it.

Adding a snippet

Click Add Custom Code above the list, or New while the list is still empty. The dialog has three sections on the left: General, Code and Consent.

  • General holds the Name and an optional Description, each up to 255 characters. Pick a name you will recognize later, such as the service the snippet belongs to.
  • Code holds the Position and the code editor. The code itself is required.
  • Consent holds the Consent category, explained below.

Click Create to save. If a required field is missing, a red dot marks the section that needs your attention.

Head or body

Position decides where the snippet goes:

  • <head> places it in the head of the page, where stylesheets belong. New snippets start with this choice.
  • <body> adds it at the end of the page body.

On a platform that uses the default Sidebar (left) under Design > Layout > Navigation position, snippets are added to the pages behind the login. Members and your team load them alike, because both work in the same layout. The snippets are added once the page has loaded, which suits HTML and CSS such as a style block or a stylesheet link.

The Consent category decides whether a snippet waits for cookie consent. Necessary loads without consent, and new snippets start here. The other categories, Statistics, Marketing and Preferences, are meant for code that needs consent. The pages behind the login do not ask for consent, and a snippet in one of these categories does not load there, so keep the snippets you need in Necessary and use it only for code that your privacy rules allow without consent.

Finding, editing and removing snippets

The list shows each snippet with Name, Position and Description. As soon as there are two snippets, a search field appears above the list. It finds snippets by name or description.

To change a snippet, click it in the list or use Edit, the pencil icon in its row. The dialog title changes to Edit Custom Code, and Save becomes available as soon as you change something.

To remove a snippet, use Delete, the trash icon in its row, or Delete in the open dialog, and confirm. The snippet is deleted for good and stops loading on your pages.
